This is How Serious the Opioid Crisis Has Become...

Unfortunately the term opioid crisis has been hijacked by the media as a popular talking point. So much so that we are all now fairly immune to the terms. Sure, there is an opioid problem out there, but it is really a crisis?

The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress thinks so. They have named September Drug-Free Pain Management Awareness Month. As chiropractors, we are uniting together to talk about the pain-management problem in America and how we can be a big part of the solution.

A Growing Problem

More than 90 Americans die each day from a drug overdose. Sadly, many of these individuals began their opioid problem with a well intentioned pain prescription from their medical doctor.

Research has found that the opioid epidemic is no respecter of ages. In fact, one in three millennials (individuals born between 1982 and 2004) know someone who is currently addicted to painkillers, and 46% say they know where they could acquire them illegally if they wanted them. We cannot afford to ignore this issue.

There is Hope.

Chiropractic care is a proven method of relieving temporary, intermediate, and chronic pain. In fact, last year the Center for Disease Control and Prevention urged physicians to use alternative methods like chiropractic rather than opioids.

The American College of Physicians went on to recommend spinal manipulation as a better solution than prescription drugs for back and neck pain, which is also the main reason individuals are prescribed opioids.

During Drug-Free Pain Management Awareness Month we will be posting a variety of stories, quotes, and infographics on our social media illustrating how chiropractic care can change the lives of all pain sufferers, from babies to older adults.

If you or someone you love is experiencing chronic pain, please contact us today. We have a great history of helping alleviate pain without prescribing pain killers.
