About Sioux Falls Chiropractic

Our History

Sioux Falls Chiropractic has it's origins in the 1950s when two brothers, originally from Sioux Falls, decided to go to chiropractic school. Upon graduation, they returned to their hometown and founded Nelsen Brother's Chiropractic. The Nelson brothers ran the clinic until 1975 when Dr. Hemming Oien, originally from Baltic and a new graduate of Northwestern College of Chiropractic, took over the practice. Dr. Christine (Bickel) Brandner, originally from Selby, SD, interned with Dr. Oien in 1988-1989. Shortly after her licensure, Dr. Brandner was approached by Dr. Oien to take over his practice when he retired.

Dr. Brandner ran the office from its original location for a couple of years at 1406 South Minnesota Ave. As she outgrew that building, she moved her practice to a strip mall at 2601 South Minnesota Ave (next to the Juice Stop). She practiced for several years at that location and in the course of those years took on Dr. Robert Joyce, originally from Canton, as an intern. Upon his graduation he became a limited partner and advanced in the practice to partner.  They also outgrew the strip mall location and moved the practice to its current location at 830 E. 41st Street.

In September of 2021, Dr. Christine Brandner announced her retirement and Dr. Robert Joyce became sole owner of the practice.  Dr. Joyce continued to employ Dr. Matthew Brandner (Dr. Christine’s nephew) as an associate doctor, and also has Dr. Shelly Buseman operate her practice at the Sioux Falls Chiropractic location.
